Job Summary:

As a kitchen apprentice, you will be part of the boohoo Attic team assisting in basic food preparation, uploading deliveries to the kitchen, carrying out daily cleaning tasks and assisting the head chef in the running of the kitchen. This role is an Apprentice position and will require college work. 

 
Hours are Monday to Friday 7.30am till 4.30pm - £5 per hour

Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Carry out basic food preparation such as peeling, chopping and preparing sandwiches under the supervision of the head chef and front of house team.
  • Checking in deliveries alongside the chef, monitoring the incoming of goods is correct and that there has been no damage on delivery.
  • Storing all goods away in their place in a safe manner. Taking care to put away any frozen goods efficiently.
  • Breaking down all cardboard and disposing of it into the paper recycling bins as designated alongside the kitchen porter
  • All food waste to be recycled in to the green bins and removed at the end of the day into the larger food waste container off site
  • All general waste to be disposed of periodically throughout the day and removed at frequent intervals into the designated bins
  • Ensuring all pots, pans, plates and cutlery are returned to the kitchen, washed effectively and returned to their place promptly and thoroughly in an organised fashion that will free up storage space in the absence of the kitchen porter
  • Following your cleaning schedule to ensure all walls, sides, floors and appliances are washed and disinfected following our ‘effective cleaning’ guidelines. Larger tasks will be assisted by the team.
  • Demonstrate a duty of care by working within the health and safety and food safety act 1990 and subsequent regulations and to follow any instructions on hygiene given by your manager

To be a kitchen apprentice you should have:

  • an awareness of hygiene and safety regulations
  • the ability to follow instructions.
  • stamina to work in hot and humid conditions

Training & Development

You will receive on-the-job training and will be asked to carry out a course in food hygiene, fire safety & manual handling.

Working as a kitchen apprentice is a useful way of learning the basics of being part of a professional kitchen with the possibilities of progressing to a kitchen assistant.
