The Role

The new Change Office at Boohoo exists to do five things for us:

1. Manage the change portfolio and the governance process for new investments and other business change 
We are introducing a new process based on the lean startup approach, with a simple stage-gate approach to review and approval of changes to our roadmaps. Effectively manage the governance process to highlight impacts on key departments and implement a prioritisation process for all initiatives across the portfolio based on input versus value analysis

2. Ensure roadmaps and delivery plans are maintained and shared
Talking to change sponsors and other stakeholders to ensure that plans are current, and maintaining a rolled-up portfolio view of changes happening across the business

3. Collect the metrics we need to manage delivery and report on effectiveness
Defining and tracking the KPIs that we care about as a team so we can make data-driven decisions, measure the value of investments, and communicate how well delivery functions are performing.

4. Drive continuous improvements in our function and support adoption of the right engineering culture
Supporting the CIO in a structured ongoing process of modernising our approach to product development and software engineering.

5. Manage effective delivery of the IT Balanced Scorecard

Supporting the Technology team to collate, analyse and deliver the IT Balanced Scorecard and help to identify opportunities for operational and strategic improvements. Create a useful KPI framework.

As the manager of this function, you will form part of the CIO leadership team and be responsible for:

  • The overall effectiveness of the Change Office in achieving the goals above.
  • Successfully completing the process of transforming how Boohoo thinks about portfolio and product management and delivers roadmaps, and continuing to improve this over time.
  • Directly supporting the shift from traditional waterfall to a more agile based dev ops structure
  • Managing a small team of PMs and BAs within the Change Office
Running the Change Office
 be effective in this role, the Change Office Manager needs to be an excellent communicator and build strong relationships with our executive board, finance and delivery teams so that we have a joined-up view of our change plans and the value we expect to derive from them.
The role is a highly visible position in our company.The person filling this role is instrumental to facilitating good investment and prioritisation decisions in the meetings where our product strategies, enterprise software investments, new ideas and roadmaps are reviewed and agreed.
From time-to-time, Boohoo also runs more traditional projects and programmes.When this happens, you will be involved in the shaping and inception of these.
  • Supporting our engineering culture change

    You will also be an expert in agile development and lean methods, and be skilled at coaching teams to help them improve over time.You will know what metrics truly matter to help us measure improvement and ensure that these are tracked and acted on within the team.

    You will work directly with the CIO to develop a change programme to lead the team through a structured discussion on the type of engineering function we need to become, and help build and run the change plan to achieve this.

    You will need to pull together a group of PMs and BAs who will have different ways of working and be operating in an environment where the boohoo approach to project management has not been embedded so you will have experience of building

    You will need to be a good advocate/influencer in as much as people want a more structured transparent approach but it will involve changes in the way people work – you will support and champion the process of transforming how Boohoo thinks about portfolio and product management and delivers roadmaps, and continuing to improve this over time.

    What we would like from you

    • Strong experience of agile development
    • Strong communicator at all levels
    • You must be a Certified Scrum Master or equivalent
    • Previous experience of helping a team adopt agile
    • Good understanding of current good practice in software engineering (such as Google’s model, or the Spotify engineering culture)
    • Strong experience working with C-suite managers
    • Experience of developing and measuring KPIs
    • A pragmatic but credible approach to risk and risk exposure within the portfolio in terms of volume and complexity
    • Exceptional communication and administration skills.
    • Previous budget management responsibility

    It would be great if you have the following:

    • Experience of helping a team transition their culture
    • Experience of acting in a consulting or coaching role
    • Practical knowledge of the lean startup approach to product management
    • Experience of Aha!, Confluence, JIRA, or similar collaboration and planning tools
