What you'll do as Product Owner...

To scope, capture, analyse, validate and document business requirements at the beginning of a project or programme of work and, mid-project where the need arises. To develop As-Is and To-Be process definitions and perform process or data analysis for key project activities. To act as the point of contact for the business with regard to questions, challenges or amendments to requirements throughout the Project lifecycle. 

  • A background in Business Analytics covering full lifecycle skills including:
    • Planning business analysis process
    • Define and scope
    • Produce requirements
    • Validate requirements
  • A detailed background of Product Ownership as a lead role within the Scrum team responsible for:
    • Creating, ordering and validating the work to be performed – product owner has authority to decide what will be developed, and when.
    • Alignment of vision
      • Creating a clearly defined vision and communicating this to all involved in said product including stakeholders and the development teams.
    • Managing the product backlog
      • Generation and management of the list of work to be completed by the development team.
      • Writing product backlog items with acceptance criteria.
      • Optimise work performed and ensure stakeholders understanding of strategy and development plan.
    • Owning the finances
      • Good decision making during development sprints, release and product level.
      • Managing effectively; budget, time and quality in order to achieve the best ROI.
      • Determine ordering of work by assessing the cost/benefit of each product backlog.
    • Participating in development events
      • Planning, refining, reviewing retrospectively planning the sprint and daily Scrum.
      • PLANNING: work with stakeholders to determine the content and steps required to deliver sprint, release or product level.
      • REFINEMENT: Work with the development team to define elaborate, estimate, order or delete product backlog items.
      • REVIEWS: Lead reviews to ensure product increment is examined in the most effective way ensuring suitable feedback with planning of best path forward.
      • RETROSPECTIVES: Collaborate as part of the team in determining and selecting improvement actions.
      • SPRINT: Work with the Scrum team ensuring questions are answered, accepting product backlog items as completed.Add and remove work from the sprint, cancel the sprint, or stop overall development of the product.
      • Attend daily Scrums in order to effectively coordinate and collaborate with the development team on set work performed within the sprint.
  • Responsible for capturing business requirement; formalised into Functional and Non-Functional requirements creating and using Process Flows to ensure clarity and effective delivery.
  • Responsible for understanding and effectively communicating the needs of multiple stakeholders and to facilitate negotiation of needs into agreed requirements.
  • Where the proposed solution does not meet the Business Requirement, responsible for GAP Analysis.
  • To prepare business cases for requirements.
  • Help the business stakeholders understand the vision and how business processes and activities will need to change to effectively demonstrate said vision.
  • Preparation of user and system test plans, test scenarios and test scripts (with business area specific support) to ensure the solution delivered meets the requirements.
  • To assist the Business and Data teams with analysis of data requirements and preparation for programme and project cut-overs.

What we are looking for from a Product Owner…

  • IT trained with 5 years or more relevant experience working in similar environments and/or on similar projects
  • Ability to think both strategically and tactically
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrable evidence of analysing and documenting complex business processes
  • Demonstrable experience writing requirements specifications
  • Proven experience interacting directly with end users
  • Experienced within testing phases of business critical projects
  • An ability to react positively within a somewhat reactive environment.
