About The Role

As our Projects and Contractor Safety Advisor you`ll be the subject matter expert on health and safety covering projects ranging from CDM to site specific Contractor Management. You`ll develop and deliver contractor safety strategies across our current UK sites working alongside our Group Project Manager. The role will report into the Health and Safety Manager. As our organisational subject matter expert you`ll provide advice and guidance to Senior Leaders and site managers to ensure legislative compliance and the promotion of continuous improvement to create and sustain the highest level of performance and Safety Culture within our Buildings Management team.

Key accountabilities of the role will include:

·Responsible for the companies safety strategy in relation to ongoing refurbishment work, including expansion and repurposing building’s projects and new acquisitions

·Driving the implementation of solid Contractor Management by equipping Group Facilities and other relevant staff members to deliver the same

·Accountable for the businesses response to any legal or enforcement action by the HSE or other relevant third parties (including but not limited to: the Environment Agency (EA) Local Authorities (LAs)) in relation to Contractor Management to ensure that the relevant issue is addressed sufficiently to eliminate the risk of financial penalty or prosecution.

·Prioritising tasks, based upon an assessment of risk

·Delivering informed Projects safety performance information to the Board, Executive Committee and management teams to guide management action, in turn providing assurance to teams including but not limited to Risk and Compliance

·Leading advanced level accident and incident investigations and provide expert advice and guidance for other investigations to: provide guidance on establishing the root cause, developing actions/recommendations, and communicating learning points to the wider business as appropriate

Accountable for ensuring that the portfolio of safety training is suitable and sufficient to meet all CDM and Contractor Management legal obligations.

Work in partnership with site functions, in particular Group Project Manager and Head of Facilities to deliver site projects safely

 

 

The Candidate:

A hands on health and safety professional.

The individual will have a specific role within the management activity of this organisation’s property portfolio across the UK and must therefore be prepared to travel extensively around the country as required.

This individual must have in depth knowledge and experience of the Construction sector.

They should be Nebosh Certificate qualified as a minimum with the Nebosh Construction Certificate being preferred to the Nebosh General Certificate.

They must have a good working knowledge of The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 with a clear understanding of the precise roles of all principal duty holders as well as the effective administration of a CDM project via the critical documentation prescribed within the relevant Regulations and Guidance.

They must have experience of vetting, selecting and appointing construction industry contractors as well as of the active management of these once appointed.

They must be used to carrying out effective site safety inspections and audits.

An understanding of behavioural health and safety and the unique culture of construction sites and construction workers will be advantageous.

Applicants must have at least Technical Member status of The Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Tech IOSH).

Applicants will need to demonstrate how they keep up to date with ongoing developments in health and safety at work via a formal system of continuous professional development.

Applicants will have a good working knowledge of current best practice in running a construction project during a pandemic (such as the one recently experienced with the sudden outbreak of COVID 19).

Applicants will be expected to be in control of several projects at one time and must be able to display past previous experience of a similarly demanding multi project working environment.
