Overview of the role:

The Head of Learning & Development will identify organisational priorities and solutions to support the delivery of the People Strategy across the Group and play a crucial role in the design, development and delivery of a Learning and Development Strategy.


  • The Head of Learning & Development plays a pivotal role in enabling the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation our people development needs and culture. Enabling the Group to delivering on its ambition to be an Employer of Choice and drive our L&D offering to support and realise our the Agenda for Change programme.
  • This position will form part of the senior HR leadership team and partner with other HR specialists (Recruitment, Reward, and Heads of HR) to provide strategic direction in shaping and developing consistent Global L&D strategies, processes and systems.
  • Managing a small team they will define and lead an open and transparent L&D strategy which drives high performance, develops potential and retains the key talent required to meet the businesses succession needs.
  • Overseeing the design and procurement of relevant learning initiatives and systems across the group.
  • Working with key stakeholders across the Group to maximise the potential of our people, managing talent, identifying learning needs across the group.
  • Reviewing and implementing relevant accreditations that support and recognise the work undertaken by the organisation.
  • Supporting our approach to career development and succession planning, including creating career journeys and skills matrices, and identifying and creating learning opportunities.
  • You’ll need a deep insight into designing effective L&D programmes that you’ll align to our organisational priorities, allowing our people to take charge of their own development and ensure they have access to the right support, at the right time.
  • Drive forward L&D internationally and work with Country Leads to embed this within the culture.


    What we are looking for:

  • Experience of working at a senior strategic level with commercial focus being able to show that there will be a commercial return on any investment made.
  • Up to date knowledge of Learning and Development practices and challenges
  • Experience of working to deadlines with excellent attention to detail and the ability to prioritise effectively
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills (verbal and written) and able to make the complex simple and bring key concepts of L&D to life for stakeholders.
  • As a senior leader in the business, focus on how we can achieve the goals of the business with open communication and collaboration with other senior leaders
  • Able to progress towards longer-term goals with tenacity and resilience, at ease with ambiguity and changing priorities - and able to overcome setbacks.
  • Be skilled at bringing external thinking into our decision making and approach, including the ability to maintain a good external network and staying up to date with developments in L&D techniques and innovation.
  • Champion innovation in L&D.
  • Utilising technology, innovation and pragmatic problem solving, navigate the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic to optimise the effectiveness and value add of the L&D function and offering.
  • Budget Management, full accountability and responsibility for an L&D budget, tracking costs and controlling expenditure in line with the wider HR budget.
