Styling Manager / Art Director

8 month FTC with possibility to extend to 12 months

We are now recruiting a Styling Manager / Art Director position based in our in-house Studio in Manchester, where you will support the Head of Studio in translating, creating and changeling the brand’s vision through all outputs for our e-commerce gallery.

The Styling Manager / Art Director will lead through example, styling on-set for part of the week, and developing the overall output of the department on their days off-set.

You’ll oversee and continue to develop the Creative function of the studio team, directly looking after Styling, Photography & Hair and Make-Up, and you will be the key point of contact at the studio for all things visual.

Tasks, duties & responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the Styling, Photography and Hair and Make-Up teams. You will be instrumental in motivating and developing experts within the team as well as provide the necessary coaching and training for any skill gaps or awareness in commercial studio practices.
  • Work with the LA based Head of Creative to create and develop a consistent and comprehensive direction, with references and aspirational imagery.
  • Communicate brand and studio guidelines and brief on-set teams with any day-to-day direction, with the help of the senior full-time team. You will be responsible for ensuring freelance teams are informed of the latest in our creative direction.
  • Act as a line of communication to Buying, Design, E-Com and Creative, collaborating and managing expectations, with the ability to translate feedback effectively to the studio teams.
  • Making final image selections across daily studio sets throughout the week, working with the Senior Photographer to ensure that images are moving through within internal SLA.
  • Sense check re-shoot requests, acting as a filter between Buying and Studio to ensure that requests are managed in a timely and reasonable manner.
  • Provide feedback to our Model Booker and Head of Studio, supporting in the planning of the weekly shoot schedule and decisions on team combinations.
  • Lead stand-up reviews with the on-set team(s), and also brief on any key items / priority or specific creative guidelines.
  • Working with the relevant internal teams on creating and executing elevated gallery shoots, campaign, email, TV, press and social content creation based on business needs.
  • Maintain a creative edge over, and an awareness of competitors for both e-com and campaign.
  • Regularly conduct site walks, feeding in to image reviews with on-set teams.
  • Working with our Model Booker to conduct regular castings and review of our model board, with a continual focus on development.
  • Pro-actively implement new processes and develop strong lines of communication & relationships both within the studio team and across wider departments.

Your past & your skills:

  • A seasoned stylist with experience Art Directing within a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement creative direction within previous roles, with a portfolio to illustrate.
  • Management experience essential.
  • Excellent fashion knowledge and a background in editorial and commercial styling.
  • A steadfast ability to guide and coach teams through challenging periods in relation to changes within the business and peak trading months.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to direct clearly, effectively and appropriately with colleagues of varying levels of experience.
  • Pro-active and confident to show initiative within your work and the wider business.
  • Above all else, an excellent work ethic and a model of professionalism.
