Job Summary:

Is responsible and accountable for the planning direction and buying for the designated product areas in order to deliver company KPI’s, and in line with the buying strategy determined by the Buying Director.

Drives team development across product area teams within ladies wear and proactively seeks to continuously improve the buying processes and function.

Operates commercially, and maintains an overview of the ‘bigger picture’ across all areas of the range by maintaining close and productive working relationships with other Head(s) of Buying.

All tasks and activities to be undertaken within the framework of the overall department and business goals and strategy and in line with brand identity and strategy.

Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

• Uses the WSSI to make informed and strategic decisions within the defined parameters of the role.
• Is responsible for setting and maintaining critical path to ensure attainment of KPI’s
• Is responsible and accountable for managing specific areas of the business and the team to ensure delivery of the KPI’s.
• Presents in a clear, concise and accurate manner, detailed information regarding the buying function.
• Works with their subordinates and in conjunction with the, Head of Merchandising and directors, to influence strategic plans and developments.
• Completes project management tasks as requested by Directors.
• Uses leadership skills to drive the motivation and people management of the team.
• Ensures effective communication and on the job training with junior, assistant and trainee buyers across the entire department.
• Monitors ranges on the web and ensures they are delivering maximum sales and profit and liaises with e comm./creative/marketing and publishing to ensure web maximum potential.
• Monitors stock covers and margin on multiple categories
• Reports and effectively communicates all key information in trading meeting to buyer, head of and director level.
• Generates and encourages ideas and suggestion from self and team to impact the business with reference to profitable promotions and mark downs.
• Monitors and maintains stocks as per KPI’s set and manages open to buy accordingly.
• Conducts comp shops and responds to competitor analysis.
• Encourages, nurtures and supports buyers to develop new strategies for the business and department and feeds into head of and directors.
• Carries out range building using available market analysis and merchandising analysis, sets a framework with merchandising and manages buys within that framework.
• Undertakes preparation for Far East trips, and works closely with the design team throughout the process to maintain effective communication and cooperation between the teams.
• Completes buying trips as needed, including sourcing and establishing new suppliers.
• Undertakes product development as required.
• Liaises with marketing and eCommerce teams to develop and maintain professional working relationships and ensure sales are maximised through the site and in line with overall strategy.

Managing the Team:

• Understands, communicates, and manages employees to achieve the goals of the organisation.
• Utilises leaderships skills and motivation techniques to maximise employee performance and satisfaction.
• Monitors the team’s overall service and team work daily and identifies and implements strategies to increase service delivery/productivity.
• Establishes and delivers effective communication strategies within the department.
• Leads by example in all work related activities, acting as a role model for employees.
• Proactively delivers job related training for all department members.
• Works with the Head of HR to identify wider training needs and to create a departmental training plan.
• Encourages, develops and manages effective employee relations across all areas of the business.
• Identifies candidates for succession planning & promotion and brings these to the attention of the Head of HR and Director(s).
• Ensures that the highest standards of personal hygiene, presentation, body language and conduct is maintained by all departmental employees.
• Works with the Head of HR on the following tasks:
o Screens, interviews and selects potential candidates.
o Performance reviews
o Performance management
o Coaching
o Counselling
o Discipline & Grievance
o Attendance/absence management
o Wage and salary administration.

Health & Safety:

• Ensures that all employees within department work in a safe manner
• Fully understands the fire, emergency and health & safety procedures of the workplace
• Ensures that all potential and real hazards are taken care of immediately, and are reported appropriately.
• Works in a safe and responsible manner, within the framework of legislation and workplace specific policies.

• Attends training, meetings and other events as requested by direct manager or senior management, including Head of Human Resources.
• Assists colleagues by completing tasks outside own job role when requested, including supporting associated companies.

• Always strives to improve the department’s operation and increase knowledge of own and related job functions.
